		<description>Great piece Phil. Beware, a leftish comment: The usage of security justifications is obviously absurd. I think the issue is actually very simple – the fear / hate of the “other”. Hence the confusion between refugees and immigrants (both are “others”), and hence the differential treatment between “regular” immigrants (i.e. from western countries, not too hard to get in) and other immigrants which are “others”. We can’t ignore however, that accepting the “other” into our society changes our society. People aren’t sure whether they want this change. This is why they keep shooting Mexicans on the southern US border and this is why the EU won’t accept Turkey. This is also why they don’t want any more “others” here in the UK.
